Facials

Facials at ART Clinic are clinical skin treatments for congestion, dullness, rough texture and uneven tone, each built around a peel or resurfacing mask chosen for your skin.

At a glance

Onset

Same day

Skin usually looks clearer and feels smoother as you leave; after a peel, whether on its own or within the Signature or Re:New, it looks its best once any light flaking has passed, within about a week.

Longevity

4–6 weeks

The usual gap between facials, as your skin renews its surface; a series builds on each one, and daily SPF helps it last.

Downtime

0–3 days

Back to your day straight after Fire and Ice, for most people; a peel, alone or in the Signature or Re:New, can bring light flaking for two or three days, and the Re:New's neck injections small marks that fade over a day or two.

Discomfort

1–3/10

A warm tingle while the acid is on, easing once it comes off, scores one or two; the Re:New's neck injections add brief, fine pricks, nearer two or three.

Procedure time

60–90 min

60 minutes for the Blue Peel Radiance or Fire and Ice, 90 for the Signature Belgravia Facial or the Re:New.

Why a doctor-led clinic offers facials

Congestion, visible blemishes, dullness, rough texture and uneven tone are changes on the skin's surface, and a peel or resurfacing mask chosen for your skin is a direct way to improve how they look. It is the reason we offer facials, and why each of the four has a purpose you can name before you book. For changes that sit deeper, such as acne scarring, thinning, fixed lines or loosening, a facial sits comfortably beside the treatments that reach them.

i

Acid, masks and light: how a facial works here

Every facial here is built around a resurfacing step. In a peel, an acid solution is painted onto cleansed skin and left for a set time; in Fire and Ice, a warming mask made with acids and retinol does that work. Either way, the aim is to loosen the outermost layer of dead cells so that it sheds, leaving a surface that looks clearer and feels smoother, with a more even tone.

LED light is part of the Blue Peel Radiance, Fire and Ice and Signature facials, as one part of the facial rather than its main work.

ii

Before any acid: your skin and medicines checked

Congestion can look like rosacea or dermatitis, and uneven tone like melasma, and each is handled differently: a peel suits congested skin, inflamed skin is given time to calm before any acid goes on, and melasma is planned for with particular care. So your practitioner examines your skin and asks how it copes with products and sunlight, whether it has seen strong sun recently, and what you put on it, retinoids and exfoliating acids especially. Your health, medicines and allergies are gone through as well, because several of them shape what is applied. Then you'll hear which facial suits your skin, and why.

iii

The right facial, on the right date

The facial is matched to what your skin shows, and its strength to how your skin copes: a peel is built up a layer at a time, only as far as your skin is comfortable. The date matters as much. An occasion, a trip somewhere sunny or a week of meetings ahead? Say so, and the facial is booked where any pinkness or flaking won't get in your way. One facial is a fair trial of your skin's response, and for congestion or uneven texture a series can do more.

iv

"I don't want a week of red, peeling skin."

Say so at the start, because it shapes which facial you're offered and when. The Blue Peel Radiance is a salicylic-acid-based peel whose strength your practitioner controls as it goes, and most people feel only warmth and a light tingle while it is on. Your skin may look a little pink afterwards, and any flaking that follows is light and passes within days.

That flaking is simply the old surface shedding, which is how a peel leaves skin looking smoother and more even. Let it come away by itself, keep strong sun off your face for a while, and tell us the date of any event, so the peel is booked with days to spare.

Which of the four facials suits your skin

They run from a single peel to a face-and-neck protocol that includes an injection. Read them by the skin each one suits; your practitioner confirms the choice at your skin check.

i

Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

Suits: congested, oily-looking or blemished skin, with rough texture or an uneven tone.

What happens: After a cleanse and a degreasing step, a salicylic-acid-based peel is painted on in even layers and left for a set time. It is removed with cleanser and water. The peel is combined with LED light and a hydrating biocellulose mask, and sun protection goes on before you leave.

Time: 60 minutes.

ii

Fire and Ice Facial

Suits: dull, rough-feeling skin, with uneven texture and fine lines.

What happens: iS Clinical's two-stage facial. First, a warming resurfacing mask with glycolic acid from sugarcane, citrus and apple extracts, and retinol; then a cooling mask with hyaluronic acid and aloe. LED light is part of the appointment too.

Time: 60 minutes.

iii

Signature Belgravia Facial

Suits: skin with several concerns at once, where the resurfacing step is best chosen on the day; the longest of the four.

What happens: A deep cleanse, then LED light at wavelengths chosen from five for your skin, then LPG Endermologie on the face: a hand-held head that works on skin and underlying tissue with suction and motorised flaps. Your practitioner then applies the Blue Peel Radiance or the Fire and Ice masks, whichever suits your skin, and finishes with a plant-derived exosome serum on the skin. You lie on a PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) mat throughout.

Time: 90 minutes.

iv

Re:New Protocol

Suits: a face showing the summer's sun as uneven tone and rough texture, and a neck whose skin has become thin and crepey.

What happens: A Blue Peel Radiance on the face, then polynucleotides injected in small amounts across the neck. Because it includes an injection, the Re:New isn't a facial in the usual sense: the neck step is an injectable treatment, with the checks and consent any injection needs. It is planned for after the summer, when the season's sun shows in the skin and the months ahead bring less of it, which suits a peel's aftercare.

Time: 90 minutes.

Polynucleotides for the neck, explained

If your skin seems to fit two of them, your practitioner will help you choose at your skin check, and whichever you pick can sit within a wider plan.

What happens,
in order

Step 1 of 6 · Before your first facial

Choosing the facial your skin suits

Your skin is examined, and your health, medicines, allergies and skincare gone through; then your practitioner recommends the facial that suits it. You'll know which facial, and why, before anything is applied. The steps that follow run in the same order for every facial; only the details change with the one you have.

Instead of a facial,
or alongside one

Each of these works on skin quality in a way a facial doesn't: in more depth, within the skin, or as light on its own. Here is how each compares, and where one can sit beside your facials in the same plan.

LaseMD Ultra

For sun spots and uneven tone, LaseMD Ultra works in more depth than a peel: a fractional laser, given as a course, that treats pigment and rough texture in the upper layers of the skin. If pigmentation is what bothers you most, this is the treatment to ask about.

Microneedling

Acne scars sit deeper than a peel can reach. Microneedling uses the fine needles of the SkinPen Precision Elite to prompt the skin's own repair, which is what can soften scarring and improve texture over a course. Where scarring is the concern, it is the better choice; where congestion is, a facial is.

Skin Boosters

Skin that feels dry or tight and looks finely lined may be dehydrated rather than rough at the surface. A facial's hydrating mask works on the outside; skin boosters are injected treatments built on hyaluronic acid and placed within the skin itself. If dryness is your main concern, they reach where no mask can.

MediLUX LED

Three of the facials include an LED step among several others. LED by itself is another treatment altogether: sessions of light alone, with no peel or mask, and the studies behind it used sessions repeated over weeks. If light is what interests you, its own page explains what a course of sessions involves.

A single plan can hold a facial and one of these, weeks apart, and which comes first is settled at your skin check.

Every facial starts with a medical check

What suits your skin is settled before a facial starts, by questions a mirror can't answer. An aspirin allergy matters before a salicylic peel, a retinoid in your routine is paused for a few days beforehand, the timing of a peel takes account of any isotretinoin you've taken, and a tendency to cold sores is planned for in advance.

Fees for every treatment

Asked before a first facial

How a peel feels, the days after, when you can work, and how many facials are worth booking; the medical questions follow.

Does a chemical peel hurt?

Not much. While the acid is on, the skin feels warm and tingles a little, and that eases once the peel is removed. Your practitioner watches your skin throughout, adds a further layer only while you're comfortable, and can take the peel off early at any point. In Fire and Ice, the first mask warms the skin and the second cools it.

Will anyone notice I've had a peel?

Usually not. Your skin may look a little pink as you leave, and after a peel some people see light flaking a few days later, so book it where that suits your week. Once that has passed, what people tend to see is skin that looks well kept, not treated. Who you tell is up to you.

Will I need time off work after a facial?

Not usually: you can be back at your desk the same day. After a peel, keep out of the sun and away from heat for 48 hours, so a day outdoors, a hard training session or a sauna can move to later in the week. If you'd rather nobody sees any pinkness or flaking, book your facial for the end of your working week.

How many facials will my skin need?

Your first facial is the test of how your skin reacts. For congestion, rough texture or uneven tone, the change builds over a series: Obagi suggests four to six Blue Peel Radiance treatments for its best results, and the number and spacing for you are set at your skin check. Each facial is booked on its own.

How long does a facial's effect last?

Around four to six weeks, as your skin renews its surface, which is why facials are often booked about that far apart. A series builds on each one, and daily SPF 50 protects the result, because strong sun can undo what a peel improves.

What if my skin feels sensitive afterwards?

A little pinkness, dryness and light flaking are normal after a peel, and they settle on their own. If anything else concerns you, call the clinic, and your practitioner will want to see you. Your next facial is then adjusted to your skin: a gentler choice, or a longer gap between visits.

I'm a man with oily, congested skin. Which facial?

The Blue Peel Radiance is the facial we offer for that: a salicylic-acid-based peel for congestion, visible blemishes and rough, uneven texture. Your practitioner will confirm it at your skin check. Tell us how and when you shave, because the timing of a peel takes it into account.

Men's skin, and how we treat it

Is a facial a good first treatment if I've never had one?

It can be. Nothing is injected into your face, your medicines and skin are checked with the same care as for any treatment here, and one facial tells you a good deal about how your skin responds and how the clinic works. If you'd like to understand the options before choosing anything, start with the guide for newcomers.

If this is your first treatment

Can I book a facial directly?

Once your skin has been checked and a facial agreed, you can book further facials directly. If you'd also like a doctor's view of your skin, or a plan that reaches beyond facials, a consultation is the place to start.

Will a peel help with acne?

A peel can leave congested, blemished skin looking and feeling clearer, and that is the use we offer it for. Acne itself is a medical condition, so if yours is active or inflamed, your practitioner looks at it first and plans the timing of your facials with you. If you take isotretinoin, or have in recent months, your peel is timed for later.

Can I have a facial alongside my other treatments?

Yes, with space between them. After a peel, laser and other facial treatments wait a few weeks, so your practitioner sets out which comes first and how long to leave in between.

Can most skin types have these facials?

Yes: the four facials suit a wide range of skin types, and your skin check matches the facial to yours. A few things mean waiting a while: pregnancy and breastfeeding, since the peel and Fire and Ice's retinol are kept for afterwards; an active cold sore, sunburn or broken skin; and a recent course of isotretinoin. Anything else, from an aspirin allergy to a retinoid in your routine, is picked up at your skin check. Before the Signature facial, mention any pacemaker or other implant, since you lie on a PEMF mat throughout, and as the Re:New includes an injection, the checks for polynucleotides apply to it too.

Do facials have side effects?

Mild ones, mostly, and they pass on their own: a little pinkness and dryness, and after a peel, light flaking. Your skin is also more sensitive to the sun for a week or so, which is why daily SPF matters. Less often, the retinol in Fire and Ice can irritate sensitive skin, a cold sore can flare in people who get them, or an allergic reaction can occur, and the Re:New's neck injections have their own short list, which your practitioner explains. Everything is gone through with you before you consent, and you can ring the clinic about anything afterwards.

One facial, or a plan

If your skin has been checked and you know which facial you want, you can book it. If you'd like help choosing, or a plan that goes further than a facial, start with a consultation.

A comprehensive diagnostic consultation: a thorough assessment leading to a truly bespoke treatment plan, created by you and your practitioner. You won't be sold to, and you won't be pushed.

Sometimes a facial is all your skin needs, and sometimes it is where a longer plan begins; either way, you'll know which before you leave.
